Professional HAZMAT Response

Refrigerant leaks are extremely dangerous. They all can cause potential problems if exposed even if the exposure is just for a short amount of time. Refrigerant poisoning can include skin and or eye irritation, headache, nausea, vomiting, chemical burns, frostbite and breathing problems. Leaks can also be hard to detect especially with Freon since this refrigerant is almost always odorless.

An ammonia refrigerant poses a significant health risk to employees and customers in the event of a leak. Ammonia is corrosive to the skin, eyes and lungs in varying degrees dependent on concentration and exposure. Highly concentrated and prolonged exposure to ammonia can result in death. The serious nature of refrigerants requires expertise and training when handling a leak.

In the event of a refrigerant release, the RECCO HAZMAT Emergency Response team is trained to arrive on site quickly with proper protective equipment to assist local authorities and work closely with emergency personnel to contain the leak as well as limit the potentially harmful consequences. All RECCO technicians have received HAZMAT Ammonia Emergency Response Certification and attend a refresher course every year. Our technicians have extensive experience with building ammonia systems giving them the knowledge to restore systems to proper control and prevent any secondary leaks.

If a refrigerant leak is suspected, it is vital to act quickly. Contact RECCO immediately at the first sign of a potential refrigerant release. Our highly efficient and trained staff is available 24 hours a day, seven days at week. Simply telephone RECCO's customer service department at 781-396-8780.
