Refrigerants

For industrial applications, ammonia is the refrigerant of choice.  It is cost efficient and environmentally neutral, having no affect on the ozone layer. Future installation and designs are based on ammonia/carbon dioxide cascade systems, to reduce ammonia charge and remove ammonia from the refrigerated space. For more info, visit IIAR.org.

On the other hand, some Freons, used in many commercial applications, were banned in 1996 by The Montreal Protocol.  In order to roll back the affect of Freon on the ozone layer, a timetable was established to phase out 99.5% of the usage of these and other Freons by 2020.

The search for Freon alternatives is one example of how evolving technology and regulations have made the exploration and usage of alternate refrigerants imperative.  We help our commercial customers adapt their systems to find safe and economic alternatives, such as R507 for low temperatures and R22 for achieving medium temperatures.

Safety

Safety is our first priority.  Design, equipment choices are all made with safety factored in.  We start by complying with all the OSHA and EPA regulations and keeping our clients in compliance.  We go beyond regulations to anticipate contingencies.  Our HAZMAT teams are called in to help government agencies and to contain problems with ammonia leaks in systems installed by others.  For more information call 800-990-9423 (9ICE) or contact.
